Amdro is BASF's hydramethylnon ant bait, aimed at the tough outdoor species – fire ants, coastal brown, Singapore and greenhead ants. Foragers take it back to the mound, so it works on the colony rather than the ants you can see.

Key facts

  • Manufacturer: BASF Australia
  • Active constituent: 7.3 g/kg hydramethylnon
  • APVMA approval: 47194/51364
  • Formulation: Ready-to-use granular bait – no mixing
  • Label pests: Singapore ant, coastal brown ant, tropical fire ant (ginger ant), red imported fire ant and greenhead ant
  • Situations: Lawns, gardens, parks, sports grounds, golf courses, industrial areas and other non-crop land
  • Label rate: 2.5 kg/ha (about 5 g per 20 m²) broadcast, or around 50 g per mound for fire ant mound treatment

Label restraints worth knowing: don't apply if rain or irrigation is likely within 24 hours, and don't use it alongside other ant remedies – the ants need to take this bait rather than avoid a treated surface.

Delivery: liquid and pesticide products can't be sent by Australia Post, so this ships by courier to a street address only – no PO Boxes or parcel lockers. A business address is best. Need courier-depot collection? Call us on (07) 4936 2093 before ordering. Shipping policy

From the PestX team

Amdro Granular Ant Bait is effective against specific destructive ant species, namely:

  • Singapore ant
  • Coastal brown ant
  • Tropical fire ant (ginger ant)
  • Red imported fire ant
  • Green headed ant

It is important to be able to recognise these ants – Amdro is designed to be attractive to them. Other species have different food preferences and may not be attracted to the bait. For example, Amdro will not control black house ant – for those, try our Synergy Pro granules or a gel bait.

No mixing necessary. If you think you have fire ants, report them – they are a notifiable pest in Queensland.
